[Now News Channel] Former Shatin Police District Assistant Commander Chan Hoi-kong and a former inspector were convicted of defrauding more than NT$26 million in mortgage loans. Their appeal was dismissed by the High Court. Chen Kaigang and former inspector Wang Haoyi were sentenced to six and a half years and five years in prison respectively the year before last. Both of them appealed against their convictions and sentences. Chen Kai Kong claimed that he had no intention of concealing his position as superintendent and that the intermediary involved in the case had falsely reported information in order to obtain commissions. However, the Court of Appeal held that Chen Kai Kong knew and provided these false information, and said that the intermediary's statement of falsification was conjecture, unsupported by evidence, and extremely unlikely. This case involved careful planning, and the circumstances were by no means minor. Therefore, although the sentence was not lenient, it was not obviously excessive, and the appeal was dismissed. #news
