Smuggling is the illegal smuggling of goods or items into or out of the country to evade duties, controls or bans. Recently, many cross-border smuggling cases in Hong Kong have attracted much attention. In particular, customs intercepted cases of using private cars to smuggle large quantities of endangered arapaima and live birds at ports such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and arrested relevant persons. Such activities not only affect social order, but may also damage the ecological environment, so law enforcement agencies have been cracking down hard.
