sargazo
Sargassum is a type of floating seaweed that forms large masses in the ocean. Currently, it is making the news in Mexico due to a massive "brown tide" of millions of tons that has reached the coasts of the Caribbean, especially in Quintana Roo, affecting its tourist beaches. UNAM is monitoring this situation with satellites and drones, since its excessive accumulation can negatively impact the marine ecosystem and the local tourism industry.
