The New York Times reported on the 1st that water supply systems in at least seven U.S. states have been targeted by cyberattacks, with increasing evidence that Iran is behind the attacks and that the actual affected areas may be even wider. So far, no tampering with water quality or affecting drinking safety has been found, but officials across the U.S. remain highly alert. These hacked systems are typically used to monitor and adjust water quality, including chemical treatment concentrations and water pressure, forcing some units to operate manually.
