The highlight of August’s celestial events, the Perseid meteor shower, will reach its peak around August 13 (Thursday). The Taipei Planetarium pointed out that the Perseid meteor shower is one of the three major meteor showers of the year. This year, there is almost no moonlight interference at its maximum, making it the most worth watching meteor shower of the year. It is estimated that the zenith meteor occurrence rate (ZHR) per hour can reach 100, but the number of meteors visible per hour is about 70. The radiant point of the meteor shower will rise at about 20:30 on the 12th (Wednesday), and the ideal viewing period will be before dawn on the 13th, and the later the night, the greater the number. The Taipei Planetarium will conduct a live broadcast of the meteor shower from 22:00 to 23:00 on the 12th, and invite Mr. Zheng Guowei, the founder of Pan Science and a well-known science communicator, to talk about meteors and share this rare summer meteor feast with the public.
